Napster Music Streaming Service In-Depth Review

Those of a certain age will remember the days of P2P (peer to peer) file sharing made popular by the Napster file sharing software download. Everyone could (and did), with carefree abandon, download a lifetimes worth of MP3 music for free and without penalty. Fancy a movie instead of music? You could also download the latest movies and shows as well.

Can Napster regain it’s past glory legally?

Fast forward to 2001 and the service was shutdown after a lawsuit from major record companies. Napster was then turned into an online (and legal) music store.

But Napster has a lot more competition in it’s latest incarnation, with rivals such as Spotify and Rdio eating up a big share of the market.

The new Napster service offers connected music lovers the ability to stream music from their catalog of 15 million-plus tracks from a range of categories or music genres.

Other options are user playlists, radio stations, recommendations and music from the singles and album charts. You can also create your own playlists to share with others.

Napster works across a number of devices apart from the PC and Mac. Although devices such as phones and tablets are covered, you can also enjoy music on smart TV’s and even hi-fi systems that support it such as Sonos, Phillips and Logitech set-ups.

Napster offer a number of different subscriptions for unlimited streaming, and even seems to be cheaper than rival music streaming service Spotify.

But what is the service really like, how does it really stack up against the competition, and is Napster worth your hard earned cash as the music services available continue to grow?
